Fourteenth Century France Amos Questerly, a wandering minstrel takes on a mysterious young apprentice. But his new protege, Richard, carries a deadly secret. A secret someone is willing to kill for. To reach safety they must earn their way to England by telling exciting stories of magical swords, princesses, and dragons, while danger follows on their heels. By the time Amos learns Richard's secret, it's clear even England may not be safe. The two, trapped in an adventure as thrilling as any of the minstrel's tales, must follow a perilous path that leads straight to the halls of the Royal Palace.

The Minstrel Tale The Minstrel Tale Trilogy Book 1 (Audible Audio Edition) Anna Questerly Alexander Edward Trefethen Books

This book will entertain children old enough for adventure stories. Perhaps 8 - 13 is the target age, I am not sure. There is good detail of life and history of early England, but not so much detail as to bore a child. The various tales - jokes, fairy tales, and adventure stories included should please both boys and girls. Adults can read it aloud with pleasure, and the stories will allow great liberties in the telling. I am an adult, I was expecting something like Chaucer. Instead, I get a classic children's tale, with all the elements. I recommend it highly, and plan to immediately send it to a twelve year old of my acquaintance. I wish I could share it more widely.

The Minstrel Tale The Minstrel Tale Trilogy Book 1 (Audible Audio Edition) Anna Questerly Alexander Edward Trefethen Books Reviews

Hard to put down. I enjoyed how it was like stories inside of stories. Loved the detail of the stories, it put you right there.
What a great story! I can't wait to read the other books in this series. A wonderful mixture of a great plot and fantastic tales told by the main character.
great story, didn't read past the first chapter, till i found myself on a train without a new book.Once you get into it, it makes for a very interesting read. This story is a story in a story with little stories in between. Great approach.
I loved every part of this book. Obviously it is "easy" reading but a beautifully constructed tale that is thoroughly entertaining. Now I am just looking forward to Book Two!
I'm an "upper middle aged" man who reads a variety of different milieu. This book was a delight and I recommend it to anyone who wants to read a book simply to enjoy reading!
My wife and I like to read books as a family, and The Minstrels Tale is a great example of a book that the whole family will enjoy. Though written for young people, adults will enjoy this book just as much. Submerging myself into this story was like stepping into the past, and I felt like I was right there alongside Amos and his young companion. I can't wait to find out what happens in books 2 and 3, and will definitely check out anything else this author writes. Great read, highly recommended!
When I got this book as a free promotion, I was interested in the premise. It was about one of my favorite eras in history, and it was a mix of modern and historical elements. My favorite part of the novel, to be honest, we're the tales within the tale. The minstrels stories were refreshing and new, and the illustrations within we're amusing to see. Outside of the minstrel tales, I thought the story could have used a bit of work. The way this author writes, it's almost like the storyline takes a back seat. There is nothing wrong with that, but I enjoy a little more substance to my story lines.
As Ms Questerly tells her story, the reader travels along with her to a place and time where the stories are not written in books such as we have today, for that type of manufacturing is centuries away. Rather the stories are told by a minstrel as HE shares his travels and stories with us and as he teaches his skill to his new apprentice. This story weaves a tale mixed in with some historical facts that leave the reader looking forward to turning the next page, as the adventures of the minstrel and his apprentice have that hint of historical familiarity.
Although Ms Questerly's target audience may have been a bit younger than this reader, there are more than enough twists and turns to satisfy me. I enjoyed every page of this story, and I look forward to her next book!
